Growth Behavior
Sativa dominant strains continue to grow throughout the whole flowering stage.
Indica dominant strains stop their growth after 1-3 weeks in the flowering stage.
Cannabis plants can form a huge root system and therefore require large pots. Of course, they also grow in smaller pots, but they can not reach their maximum size and grow slower at a certain point. The slowed growth begins when the pot is completely filled with roots and the roots can not spread further.
Repeated repotting leads to unnecessary stress. Very stressed plants tend to grow abnormally or to stop their growth.
We recommend starting with a 10L pot and only repot once. If the plant should only get about 1.5m high, a 40L pot is sufficient.
There are three types of cultivating cannabis: Normal, Sea of Green, and Screen of Green
We recommend Screen of Green to maximize the usage of the space and potential of each plant.
Light Cycles
There are three often used light cycles for the vegetative stage.
The most popular light cycle is 18 hours of light and 6 hours of darkness. During this cycle the plants grow normally and you do not consume too much electricity.
Another light cycle is 24 hours of light. During this cycle the plants grow very quickly, but also a lot of electricity is consumed. (Some growers claim that the cycles do not make any difference, others are firmly convinced.)
The third light cycle is 12 hours of light, than 5.5 hours of darkness, 1 hour of light and again 5.5 hours of darkness. During this light cycle, the plant is kept in the vegetative stage with minimal energy consumption. However, this has a negative impact on the growth rate.
pH value
Earth pH value: 6.0 - 6.5
Water pH value: 6.0 - 7.0
If the pH value is too high or too low, nutrient deficiencies can occur because the plants can not absorb the nutrients.
Temperature
Room temperature: approx. 20-30°C
The temperature in the vegetative stage is not as important as in the flowering stage, but should be considered nevertheless. If the temperature is too low, the plants freeze and grow slower. In addition, mushrooms and molds can grow easier.
If the temperature is much too high, the plant consumes more water than it can absorb and dries out. This slows down the growth extremely.
Humidity
Humidity: 40% – 70%
If the humidity is too low, the plant tries to absorb more water through the roots. For this reason it needs a larger root system, i.e. a larger pot and must be watered more often.
If the humidity is too high, molds can occur and the root system may not get completely formed.
